For the first research blog I read an article on the media artist Nobumichi Asai. He is critically acclaimed for face-mapping for Lady Gaga at the 2016 Grammy Awards and his own face-mapping and media works. The interview goes into talking about his work "OMOTE" a real time projection mapping. He was interested in the idea of makeup creating a "face language". The different makeups being applied could communicate certain times, places and feelings. The piece (OMOTE) is a reflection of the inner self, the idea of "face language" as a way to communicate our emotions and feelings to others. I was extremely impressed by this projection mapping video. The animations were spot on to the structure and movement of the models face. The projection mapping created the illusion of difference in makeup and time by how exact it was to the models face. I want to play with this idea of animating the face, with a real face, pictures, and animations and try to accomplish what Nobumichi Asai has accomplished. Below are his works.
