For my research blog, I looked into cool, new digital art projects that are happening around the world. I found an article by the lonely planet that discusses a new immersive digital art experience in a former foundry in Paris that has been transformed into a giant colorful canvas. The exhibit showcases iconic famous works, like paintings, through the use of 140 projectors the help transform the foundry into canvas's for art. It also utilizes a specialized sound system that creates an experience that goes beyond the visual to create an immersive experience that caters to and engages multiple senses. According to the source, the intention of the project is to "offer a different and innovative experience in the way of understanding art. The digital shift also makes it possible to cope with the difficulty of mounting exhibitions with major works of art history, sometimes even too fragile to be moved". The former foundry will showcase works of Austrian artist Gustav Klimt and his former student Egon Schiele. One of the coolest aspects of using this space in a transformed way for art is how they are aiming to preserve the space's historic charm and antiquated feel, because the foundry will have many of its original architectural elements, such as industrial chimneys, drying towers and water tanks, all of which serve as backdrops for the vibrant art projections. Overall, this project showcases how viewing art can go beyond simply being viewed in a gallery space, and can become an immersive experience where you don't just view art, you can interact with it and be a part of the experience.
