For this project I wanted to start a conversation on makeup and beauty, and how they are a large aspect in societal definitions of femininity, as well as a part of feminine culture. Makeup can be seen as a mask, or an illusion in itself. I am currently in the process of taking portraits of models from the internet, and editing the models makeup, making the makeup more dramatic and enhanced to accentuate features and the graphic as a whole. The features I choose to highlight are primarily the eyes and the lips, which tend to be a focus in beauty product advertisements. I am making a series of black and white collages, to play with the concept of makeup being an illusion. I add shadows and details to these areas to emphasis ideals of feminine beauty.
