For Project 1, I chose to expand on a few photos that I took last summer. I put the word "truth" over a pair of eyes to show that truth is in their eyes, but truth is also masking part of their face at the same time. Here is that photo:
Sometimes, when we are so preoccupied with the pursuit of truth, we can forget about the simple truths of helping our neighbor. So as an expansion of this photo, I wanted to explore the dynamics of this paradox.
So I decided to do a cover and an accompanying music video for Arcade Fire's song, "Rebellion (Lies)."
Here is the original song:
Here is my (almost finished) cover of the song:
Here is a rough outline for the music video:
From the outline above, you can see that the video will have five "lies" and four "truths." But as a whole, the video and the song will both be about missing out on helping our neighbors because we are preoccupied with the pursuit of truth and the masking of lies. I am going to use a lot of political videos and issues, but I am not making a political project. The main point is not that I am taking a side, but rather asking if both sides are missing the point.
The video will be bookended with eyes closing and then opening. Also, I might filter each video to only show its contents through the word: "Lies," to illustrate that the lie is masking the truth.
It would look something like this:
At the end of the video and after the song ends, I am using an audio clip from The Liturgists Podcast. The clip is from their live episode titled "Enemies." That audio clip, accompanied with the sun rising after the sunset, and finally the eyes opening will mark the "Truth" with a capital "T."
Here is the link to the Podcast episode that I am sampling, as well as some of the youtube clips that I am thinking about using for the video:
