For my second project, I am very early in the thought process. I have never done projection mapping before and I also have never used videos in an art project before. The entirety of this project is new territory for me and it's proving to be difficult to plan out all the pieces. I am having a very hard timing trying to figure out 1. what my theme is and 2. how to convey it. So far, I have been thinking about somehow incorporating space and time into my final piece. I was looking online at archive.org for old NASA videos of space exploration throughout human history. I found a couple good ones; the first steps on the moon, a compilation video of what has happened in the 20 years since the first steps on the moon, rocket launches, the first imaging of Mars and so on. My initial idea was to find a video from every 10 year interval since our first steps on the moon, to show how far we have come and how quickly we have advance since the first steps we took in space exploration, literally. Now looking at the videos, there aren't great ones in the exact time frame of 10 year intervals, so I may use videos generally 10 years apart, give or take a year or two. I haven't decided what I will project the videos on, but I was thinking two can play at once. One always being the first steps, and the other switching and progressing through the years. This would be to really show how far we have come comparing now and then. Does anyone have any ideas about what would be a successful medium to project these videos on? I also had an idea of maybe showing the first steps on the moon in real life vs. how 2001 Space Odyssey shows it happening, before it happened in real life? Or what old movies thought of space before we explored it, and showing the reality of space exploration at the time and how we perceived it in movies and how the movies have changed based on science. I am still throwing these ideas around in my head and deciding what will be best, so bare with me!
