After flushing out some of my initial ideas for this project, I wanted to subtly comment on both traditional and contemporary ideas of femininity, and vanity. Appearance is highly valued in femininity, and we as society elevate women that are extraordinarily beautiful regardless of their talent, intelligence, creativity, etc. I aimed to demonstrate this by taking fashion editorial shots, and editing them by adding more makeup to them. Makeup is only one aspect of ideal femininity, the idea of getting "dolled up" or "putting on a face" is seemingly arbitrary, but still is practiced and validated today. Makeup itself is a kind of illusion, and I attempted to convey that through this gif.
