This untitled project automatically generates digital "paintings" using Processing. 5,000 on-screen particles move through a pseudo-randomly generated vector field and leave a trail as they move. The user can control the parameters of the particles' movement using an on-screen interface.
The user's experience is a mix of passive viewing and interaction with the piece. They experiment with the controls to see what happens next and make changes based on what they like to create something beautiful. The feedback encourages the viewer to actively engage with the art and leave their own mark on the piece (at least temporarily).
Giving the viewer limited control over their experience of the piece gives them a personal stake in the art to encourage them to engage with it. However, not having total control still makes the work somewhat independent of the viewer. This makes it all the more engaging because there is still an element of mystery behind what is going on in the pice.
