Premiere + Green Screen Lab

For this Lab you must complete the following tasks to receive 25pts.


***Remember to have EXCELLENT file management skills, as all time based media software works from live files. Never delete files unit after your project is finished, turned in and graded.***


  • Don't trust the lab computers for storage, don't trust Adobe Cloud for storage.

  • Always keep a back-up on One Drive, or Google Drive.


Demonstrate the following tasks:

  1. Import at least 2 videos

  2. Key out the greenscreen and place yourself onto another video

  3. Separate video from audio, add an audio effect to distort the audio

  4. Reverse a video clip, change the speed of a video clip

  5. Snip videos and rearrange them on the timeline

  6. Stack videos and use blending modes

  7. Use keyframes on scale, rotation, position & opacity

  8. Use at least 3 effects, play with the settings

  9. Use at least 4 transitions at the beginning and end of video clips, play with the settings

  10. Use text tool and keyframes to make scrolling credits, play with the settings.

  11. Export your video using H.264 with YouTube Presets

  12. Zip your file, store on your drive, upload final video to YouTube and post the link on your blog.


The following videos are provided as reference materials. Students are expected to complete the lab in person with the instructor whenever possible. The videos are available as a supplemental resource if you need a refresher on a technique or if you were absent and need to make up the lab. All students must shoot their own greenscreen video. If you are absent, I will work with you to arrange a time to make up this portion of the assignment.


Step 1:

  1. With a partner Shoot a 10 second video of each other on our green screen. You can do anything you want, sit, stand, dance, or stand awkwardly still!

  2. Find another video to use as a background and download it.

  3. Follow the detailed instructions in the video below.


  1. Import both videos into Premiere.

  2. Add your videos your timeline.

  3. Familiarize yourself with the Premiere platform.

Step 3:

  1. Use color keys to get rid of the green background.

  2. Layer your videos so that the green screen vid plays on top of the background.

Step 4:

  1. Add transitions to the beginning and ending of your video.

  2. Split the background into two parts, put the unedited green screen between the two parts.

  3. Use transitions between the parts. (4 transitions total)

Step 5:

On the second part of your video, split another portion of itself off and layer it on top and use a blend mode so that you can see both videos overlapping.

Use keyframes to change the scale (in motion) of the top video.

Use key frames to rotate (in motion) the top video.

Step 6:

  1. Split off another portion of your video.

  2. Use 2 additional video effects of your choice with key frames on part of the video.

  3. Follow the detailed instructions in the video below:

Step 7:

  1. Make "credits." You can write whatever you want, they can be short, at least 3 lines.

  2. Make them scroll from bottom to top.

  3. Export your video.

Upload the video to YouTube and post it on your blog for credit.
